ECM Report finds fresh PhD software developers starting on £40k in Cambridge

ECM, the Cambridge-based high-tech recruitment experts who specialise in finding top jobs for exceptional candidates, have released their latest annual Salary & Benefits Report.

ECM's Salary and Benefits Report 2015 analyses data for the final quarter of 2014, surveyed directly from client companies and gathered indirectly from job seekers, vacancies and placements. Its findings allow companies to compare salary levels and benefits packages, to ensure they retain key staff and continue to attract the most highly sought-after candidates.

For both graduates and PhDs, the general level of starting salaries has again crept up. Now it is not unusual to see graduate starting salaries being offered at the £30k+ level, and PhDs at £40k. With both software and hardware roles, upper levels have become more stretched out; for the first time, six-figure salaries were quoted for senior management roles such as development director.

Martin Constantinides, Director, says: “In the course of our work at ECM, we collect a large amount of data about the salaries and benefits being offered in the local area. We have always been happy to provide informal advice to our clients so they can ensure their packages remain competitive.

“Since 2008 we have extended and consolidated this by producing an annual, formal Report based on detailed surveys of the salaries and benefits offered. Clients surveyed range from the ‘micro’ business size, with fewer than 10 employees, up to the large enterprise.

“Our survey provides a general guide – obviously individual benefits packages will vary considerably with a particular company’s situation. We are happy to continue to offer advice on a case-by-case basis.”

Advance copies of the survey have already been sent to participating clients, but it is now available more generally. Please contact ECM for details of the survey. Its website is at www.ecmselection.co.uk
