eCommerce boom generates 300% growth for James and James

James and James Fulfilment are on target for £5 million in revenue by December 2014.

James and James Fulfilment Ltd, founded by University of Cambridge engineering graduates James Hyde and James Strachan in 2010, has now opened its second fulfilment centre to accommodate increased demand. The new warehouse has been specifically designed for fulfilment of B2C ecommerce orders.

The new 60,000 sq ft site has already surpassed their first centre’s output. The extra capacity and new clients have increased James and James’ daily order despatch threefold. Since the company's rebrand to James and James from Six Works in May 2013 and subsequent expansion, James and James have come increasingly to the attention of larger national brands. James and James are meeting their growth targets and look set to reach £5,000,000 in revenue by December 2014.

Operations director James Hyde said “We are delighted that our company’s growth and fulfilment service has attracted such attention from national chains. Though we are still the ‘go to’ provider for East of England based eCommerce companies.” James and James provide clients from all over the world with fulfilment, shipping an ever increasing number of orders worldwide.

The rise in UK-based subscription product companies has played a part in the company's rapid growth. The business model that found huge success in the US is being quickly replicated here. Early adopters of subscription selling in the UK included GlossyBox and GrazeBox who send a box of goodies to subscribers at regular intervals.

James and James have recently taken on some new large accounts that sell by the subscription model. “The online nature of our software means our systems and technologies easily accommodates this kind of business model,” said Technical Director James Strachan. James and James fulfilment systems offer full online traceability and tracking for all subscription orders. Which is vitally important for businesses selling by the model as they often have a need to be able to easily show that items have been sent and delivered.

In order to ensure their technology remains at the forefront of the industry James and James have a very close working relationship with the University of Cambridge by collaborating with the Institute for Manufacturing in a joint research project looking at the application of Product Intelligence where computer models would allow every product and order in the warehouse to effectively think for itself. “Soon orders themselves will be able to communicate with warehouse and delivery staff to make sure that they are processed correctly, rather than the current monolithic management systems. Our clients are really keen on this investment in the future,” said James Strachan. The collaboration has led to the publication of their initial research in a paper by Springer titled Product Intelligence in Warehouse Management: A Case Study and another titled The Role of Distributed Intelligence in Warehouse Management Systems.

This culture of continuous improvement ensures that clients of James and James stay well ahead of their competitors. It is this difference that has lead to increasing attention from medium to large corporate nationals taking an interest in James and James.
