Following a period of rigorous assessment across key areas of the club; from coaching and playing conditions to club environment, ethics, sports equity and inclusivity, the Golf Mark accreditation signals the clubs intention to offer a great golfing experience to newcomers to the game.
Lady members Ros Grey and Jan Stuart-Menteath, working closely with Head Professional Andrew George and his assistants Jamie Le Brun and Paul Geen, have led the initiative and worked diligently to ensure all processes and culture met with England Golf strict criteria.
Commenting on the accreditation, Club Manager Tom Munt said “This award is fantastic news for the club and signals to anyone thinking of taking up the game that Ely really is a great place to start.
In addition to our extensive practise ground facilities which include a bunkered green and roped teeing areas, we have now added a covered two-bay coaching area – perfect for one-to-one sessions with video work throughout the year. And of course we still have our two all-weather nets located near the first tee for last minute preparations.
Whether it is supporting Junior Golf through our 'Academy Program' sponsored by Tucker Gardner, or encouraging ladies through our hugely successful Ladies Taster program run by ex Captain Carole Curtis, Ely has been recognised for its efforts to grow the game in Cambridgeshire.”
Andrew George, the Head Professional at Ely is one of the top rated club professionals in the UK and was out in Portugal earlier this month, winning his first round of a Seniors Tour qualifying event, before narrowly missing the cut by one shot in the final round.
Anyone interested in taking up golf should speak to Andrew or his assistants to explore the coaching schemes on offer.
