Entries for The Community Magazine Awards now open

Entries are invited for the annual Community Magazine Awards which provide a perfect chance to celebrate the diverse range of publications that serve the region’s communities.

The awards were launched 19 years ago by The Cambridge with the aim of recognising the hard work done by groups, charities and colleges to provide their local community with interesting and relevant news and information.

As in previous years, a panel of judges will come together to review the dozens of entries submitted.

The judges will consider magazines published in a 30-mile radius of Cambridge throughout 2017 and will be looking at editorial quality, community content and overall presentation. In addition to this they will be assessing the publication’s usefulness to those it serves.

The Cambridge’s Chief Operating Officer Andy Lucas, said: “Every year that we host these awards we receive a huge number of entries, highlighting that there’s still a demand for community-focused printed news, alongside the growth in digital media.

“The wide range of subjects covered in the magazines and the passion and effort that goes into producing these publications is extremely impressive. We’re proud to help recognise this commitment and launched these awards to reward the hard work that goes into serving the many different communities in our region.”

Magazine editors and publishers are encouraged to enter the awards, giving them a chance to win a prize, trophy and logo to be used in their publication.

The awards include High Frequency’ (10-12 issues per year) and ‘Low Frequency’ (4-9 issues per year) categories, Best College’, ‘Best Charity’ magazines as well as ‘Best Photo’, ‘Best Front Page’, and ‘Best Editorial’.  A ‘Most Improved’ award will also be given out to a previous entry who demonstrates the most significant year on year progress and a ‘Previous Winners’ award is open for magazines which have won a high or low frequency gold award in the past two years.

The awards ceremony will take place this July in Cambridge, with key speakers and a Q&A session planned so that entrants have a chance to ask anything about the judging process or advice for the future.

Entry forms can be collected from any of The Cambridge’s branches, downloaded from the website here or requested by emailing marketing@cambridgebs.co.uk

The closing date for entries is Friday 29th June 2018
