An evening with Raja Shehadeh

Award-winning Palestinian author returns to Cambridge to discuss his forthcoming book, Language of War, Language of Peace.

Cambridge Literary Festival is thrilled to announce that tickets are now on sale for an evening with Raja Shehadeh, the award-winning author of Palestinian Walks and human rights lawyer from Ramallah, Palestine. Shehadeh returns to Cambridge to discuss, with Ruth Padel, the politics of language and the language of politics in the ongoing Israeli-Palestine conflict. As the peace process grinds to a halt and the situation in Israel and Palestine worsens, Language of War, Language of Peace (Profile Books) provides a hugely important poliical commentary. As Shehadeh examines the power of words to create barriers – legal and cultural – which confine today's Palestinians just like the borders, checkpoints and so-called 'Separation Barrier,' he also offers hope that language can be as powerful and potent as any weapon.

Shehadeh will be joined by British poet Ruth Padel, Resident Poet at the Royal Opera House and author of Learning to Make an Oud, as they reflect on how it might be possible for Israelis and Palestinians to attain a language of peace. A rare opportunity to hear from one of Palestine's leading, most thought-provoking writers.
