Extract Information publishes Information Industry Digest

Extract Information’s monthly Information Industry Digest contains product news and focuses on patent information and information products, including those used in the technology IP lifecycle. But why information and why would anyone need to pay to get it – isn’t it all available for free on the internet through Google?

Well the fact that Thomson Reuters just sold its IP & Science Information business for $3.5 billion says there are a lot of companies who are willing to pay for the right kind of information products.

Extract Information’s blog (aka Information Industry Digest as PDF download) is based on tracking companies like Thomson Reuters, who create search tools and other software to enable companies to find the information they need to make business decisions.

The blog focuses on patent information,  and because patent analysts need to review non patent literature too, it also monitors scientific and other academic publishers and products.  IP information is also an important factor in a technology company’s competitive intelligence activities, and increasingly patent information vendors are moving to be full innovation lifecycle software providers, so these companies and their products also feature.   Two trends of note since April, when the blog started, are the emergence of new innovation management software products from several vendors, and the introduction of comprehensive chemical name identifiers in patent information databases. The chemical name identifiers take advantage of new techniques to help patent analysts to uncover chemicals disclosed anywhere in a patent specification. Previously emphasis has been on indexing claimed, and exemplified compounds only.  The blog is published approximately monthly at: http://www.extractinfo.info/info-blog/  And can be downloaded from: http://www.extractinfo.info/downloads/1-information-industry-digest/ .

Extract Information is working with search software developer Deep SEARCH 9, who’s new web content analytics technology is used to build the SEARCHCORPUS for the InfoBlog.  Deep SEARCH 9 can be used to create repeatable, precision search queries which will run on sources on the public web.
