They are linking up with the Museum of Tomorrow Choir (pictured), and the two choirs have sent each other greetings films. The Fairhaven Singers also took a collection for the Rio choir after their Christmas concert. The scheme is run by Streetwise Opera, through its international initiative With One Voice.
Ralph Woodward, Musical Director of the Fairhaven Singers, said: “We’re delighted to enter into this twinning arrangement, and we’re very honoured to have been asked to participate in such an imaginative form of outreach.”
Matt Peacock MBE, Artistic Director of Streetwise Opera and founder of With One Voice, said:
“We are very excited to see support in the UK grow for our choirs in Rio, as this is having a positive impact on the sustainability of this project launched during the 2016 Cultural Olympiad in Brazil.”
The choirs work with around 300 homeless people in Rio de Janeiro. Singing is having a positive impact on their wellbeing and social inclusion, while providing them with a sense of belonging and purpose. 11% of participants have found employment and secured housing since the project started.

About The Fairhaven Singers
Under Musical Director Ralph Woodward, the Fairhaven Singers has become one of East Anglia’s foremost chamber choirs. Our diverse repertoire encompasses the sacred and the secular, spanning eight centuries, and has delighted audiences in Cambridge and across Europe. Our concerts range widely in mood and style, from intimate evenings of a cappella music to major choral-orchestral works with world-class soloists, but every concert offers our trademark energy, quality and warmth.
Every year the choir undertakes several concerts for charity. If you are fund-raising and wish to discuss how the Fairhaven Singers can help, or if you might wish to hire us for a wedding, corporate function, conference or reception, please contact the Chairman.
Rehearsals are held in Queens’ College Chapel each Tuesday evening in term-time. Although we have a waiting list, we do occasionally require more singers; please contact the Musical Director if you might be interested in auditioning.
