Final night market & open-air cinema of the summer is a guaranteed showstopper

Cambridge Business Improvement District (BID) is delighted to announce details of the final Night Market/Open-Air Cinema of the Summer, which will take place next Friday 17th August in association with Cambridge City Council.

After a bumper season of films, movie fans are being treated to possibly the greatest showcase of all: Paddington 2 will be shown at 18:30pm followed by the spectacular musical, The Greatest Showman at 20:30pm.

Paddington 2 boasts an all-star cast of Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hugh Grant, Julie Walters, Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent – and, although it received just three nominations at the British Academy Film Awards earlier this year, it is considered one of the best-rated films of all times. The Greatest Showman, meanwhile, won The Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song (The Greatest Show), and was additionally nominated for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Original Song at last year’s Academy Awards. Starring Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, it is inspired by the story of promoter and circus founder, PT Barnum.

The Love Cambridge open-air cinema is a free event in Market Square, outside the Guildhall. Limited seating is provided on a first-come-first-served basis - but movie-goers are advised to come early or bring their own portable chairs as the event has become one of the city’s monthly must-dos over the Summer. The Night Market, which is open until 10pm, features over 50 local businesses and pop-ups selling a diverse mix of traditional street foods and beverages from around the world – curries to canapes, Dutch poffertjes to Brazialian feijoada.

Ian Sandison, CEO of Cambridge BID, said: “The open-air cinema and night market have continued to be popular, increasing dwell time in the city and allowing many of our independent businesses to showcase their diverse range of wares.”
