First class festive thank you for Cambridge posties

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner will say a big thank you to Royal Mail sorting office staff this Friday as he hears first-hand about this year's Christmas delivery operation and shows his gratitude to posties for all their hard work throughout this unusual year.

Mr Zeichner will hand a postie a big Christmas card full of thank you messages from Cambridge people.

Postmen and women are currently pulling out all the stops to sort and deliver packages and mail in Cambridge before Christmas Day.

The last posting dates for Christmas delivery are Friday, December 18 for second class mail and Monday, December 21 for first class mail.

Royal Mail research shows an overwhelming 72% of people would like to receive cards at Christmas, with only 6% saying they would prefer a festive greeting via social media.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: "We know Santa isn't the only busy person at this time of year, so are all our posties! Royal Mail staff do a fantastic job making sure cards and parcels arrive at homes across Cambridge. This year I also wanted to say a special thank you to posties who are among the unsung heroes of the covid crisis. When people were locked down sometimes their postie was the only friendly face they saw, and Royal Mail workers across the country have played many key roles in the pandemic, keeping us all connected and delivering coronavirus tests. All those Christmas cards we send to brighten up someone's festive season, add up to a demanding job, so let's all say a big thank you to our posties!"
