Free communication strategy advice podcast launches

A local communication consultant and PR expert is throwing her arms around the Cambridge business community and beyond, by launching a free bite-size advice podcast to help startups and growing businesses understand the 'comms stuff' earlier on in their growth journey, save time and money with resources, and have more impact with customers and investors.

Communication Strategy 'That Works' Podcast

Independent PR and communication strategy expert, Emma Drake, based in Melbourn Cambridgeshire, has changed her approach to business in the wake of coronavirus by adding a free advice lifeline to startups and growing businesses' via a weekly podcast; Communication Strategy 'That Works'.

Emma says; "There has never been a more challenging time for businesses, with a year of coronavirus crippling many and Brexit looming which may catch the ones that have escaped 2020 unscathed. This is especially true, I think, for less established and growing brands that have ambitious plans to be bigger companies one day. Many of which reside in Cambridge."

By offering weekly, bite-sized free advice to entrepreneurs and business owners who want to grow their business with the right communication strategy in place, Emma has flexed her core services to offer critical support 1:1 only where and when it is needed.

She continues: "I often see growing companies and startups, in particular, focussing all their efforts on sales and marketing. But, unless they have the 'comms stuff' right early on, they can have quite a confusing message, often targeting the wrong people in the wrong way. Combined with little attention to reputation management, this can lead to a lack of impact in sales and marketing, and leaving them open to reputation impact. This all impacts business growth, so all these areas are intrinsically linked."

By helping startups and growing businesses understand how to have more impact communicating with customers, investors, and other people important to them, Emma supports business growth and a more successful marketing and sales strategy that is prioritised at this growth stage.

Emma adds: "I see a lot of services to support this group of businesses either capitalising on the current economic uncertainty or being afraid or unable to offer anything for free to provide support. I want to do the exact opposite. I want to throw my arms around this community and provide something they need; this need is what spurred me on to start my free podcast."

Emma is an award-winning consultant and one of a few hundred people Chartered with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in the UK. Emma has a strong Cambridge connection. She previously helped tech-led Cambridge businesses such as Scientific Generics which became Sagentia. She was Head of Marketing Communications supporting early-stage startups and led the international R&D consulting business's marketing communications strategy for several years, before moving into prop-tech and the built environment where she's been focussing her efforts for the last ten years.

Emma continues: "I have a huge amount of knowledge and advice to share. Sometimes money can be a barrier to having conversations. However, by offering top tips, downloads and freebies, I can focus my time on those critical services businesses need me for when ready and in their own time. Plus, people can get to know me to see if we are a good fit in the meantime with no strings attached. I will still, of course, service my core PR clients. That won't change!"

Communication Strategy 'That Works' is a free weekly bite-size business podcast available to stream on all major streaming platforms.  It charted at #9 for marketing and #24 for business in the UK Apple podcast charts when it launched a few weeks ago, and covers a range of topics covering the core areas of both promotion and reputation management.
