Free SummerDaze activities continue during school holidays

Cambridge City Council’s free programme of summer fun for children and families in city parks and open spaces continues until 25 August.

The SummerDaze programme from the council’s Children and Young People’s Participation Spirit (ChYpPS)  gives school-aged children and families the chance to take part in a huge variety of arts, crafts, games, sports and outdoor activities in a fun, supervised environment.

There are activities every weekday at a variety of venues including Coleridge Recreation Ground, Meadows Community Centre, St Alban’s Recreation Ground, Trumpington Pavilion, Orchard Park and on board the ChYpPS Community Play Boat at Jesus Green lock on Thursday 17 and 24 August.

The final two Big Wednesdays of the summerwill see festival-style events at:

  • Jesus Green (1pm-4pm) featuring the annual skate competition, outdoor family bootcamp, athletics, arts, crafts and circus skills; and
  • Cherry Hinton Hall (1pm-4pm) with animal handling, a family fun run, circus skills, circus skills, table tennis and arts and crafts.

The first ever Trumpington Youth Festival is also taking place this Saturday 19 August at Trumpington Pavilion and Recreation Ground from 2pm-6pm.

This celebration has been organised by local young people and will feature sports and activities including a disco dome, plus live music from local bands, community stalls, bouncy castles and more

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “The SummerDaze programme has offered a fantastic programme of fun activities so far during the summer holidays, and if anyone hasn’t yet been along I’d really encourage everyone to do so.”
