Free workshop to help local businesses reduce energy bills

Businesses are invited to attend a FREE workshop next week, which aims to help small and medium-sized companies save money on energy bills and apply for energy-related grant funding of up to £20,000.

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) and Cambridge City Council are supporting the Carbon Trust to host the Green Business Fund event at Mandela House on St Andrew’s Street on Tuesday 11th September, 9am-12noon.

During the morning session, attendees will receive training from the Carbon Trust on subjects including:

  •     Understanding and reducing energy bills
  •     Major areas of energy consumption
  •     How to access grants of up to £5,000 for energy saving equipment

During the afternoon session PECT will give a presentation on their Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) programme which provides companies with free on-site energy audits and reports to identify cost-effective energy efficiency measures. Following this, they can choose to apply for grants of up to £20,000 to cover up to 25% of the cost of their chosen energy-saving measures.

Cllr Rosy Moore, Executive Councillor for Environmental Services and City Centre, said: “As part of the council’s Climate Change Strategy, we work with companies to encourage and help them reduce their energy use and lower carbon emissions.

“Businesses attending the free workshop at Mandela House will gain good, practical advice on reducing their energy bills, and how to apply for grants that can help them do even more to protect the environment and combat the effects of climate change.

“And of course by reducing their energy bills, companies will save resources for their business as well as for the planet as a whole.”

Businesses wishing to register for the event can visit www.gbfcambridge.eventbrite.co.uk  or contact PECT on info@beecp.co.uk or phone: 01733 882549.

The Business Energy Efficiency programme can potentially provide grant funding up to a maximum of £20,000, to eligible businesses for energy efficiency measures such as LED lighting, heating and insulation and is funded by the ERDF.  Find out more at www.beecp.org/sign-up
