The initiative received funding from the Rural Development Programme for England, under the European Commission’s Leader programme from 2008 to 2013, and now the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is hoping to be successful in applying for future funding from 2015 to 2020.
During 2008 to 2013 the Eastern Plateau awarded £1.6 million of funding to support local farm businesses, micro enterprises, tourism and community service providers. Successful projects included funding towards new equipment, conversion of redundant farm building in to holiday lets, managed workspace for businesses; and new community facilities.
The LEP says: "We are currently consulting on, and developing of application for funding to continue on the good work already achieved, this must be submitted to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs at the beginning of September 2014. If the eastern Plateau is successful, we will be ready to start awarding funding to new projects from early 2015."
Community and business views are important for the design of the new programme
