The council’s community grants fund exists to support groups working to tackle social and economic inequality and to help those city residents in greatest need.

Groups have until Monday 2 October to submit grant applications under the council’s 2018-19 community grants scheme.

Applications to support sporting, arts, cultural and community development activities are welcome. Organisations providing legal, financial or employment advice and support can also apply.

Applications will be assessed carefully to see how proposed activities will reduce social and or economic inequality for those residents with the greatest need.

Applicants will also need to show they contribute to one or more of the council’s priorities around improving health and wellbeing, bringing communities together, improving employment opportunities or creating a stronger voluntary sector in the city.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Our community grant fund of £900,000 has, over the last few years, made a real difference to people’s lives by assisting with our aim of tackling inequality and disadvantage in Cambridge.

"With the reduction of other funding sources for community and voluntary groups, I am proud that the council remains committed to assisting these groups in the vital work they do in our communities.

“As with previous years, we will focus our resources in assisting those groups that help people in the greatest need.”

Two workshops, to be run jointly by the council and Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service (CCVS), have been organised to guide groups through the application process.

These will both take place at The Meadows Community Centre, 1 St Catharine’s Road, Cambridge, CB4 3XJ on:

  • Wednesday 6 September, 6.15pm to 7.45pm
  • Monday 11 September, 10am to 11.30am

Booking is essential – email: [email protected] or tel: 01223 457875.

CCVS is also offering one to one sessions on Tuesday 19 September from 5pm to 7 pm and Monday 25 September 10am to 4pm. Booking is essential – contact CCVS  on 01223 464696 or email: [email protected].
