Following 12 months of adventurous fundraising activity, along with matched funding from the company, the CEO and team members came to see where their tremendous efforts have benefited local patients.

Disley, who has has been instrumental in growing Horizon Discovery from a small start-up in Cambridge into a rapidly growing multinational leader in life science, was welcomed to the hospital by Dr Hugo Ford, Director of Cancer Services and enjoyed time hearing about about the long term vision for tackling cancer at Addenbrooke’s.

Disley and members of the Horizon Discovery charity committee were taken on a tour to follow in the footsteps of an Addenbrooke’s cancer patient being treated on the radiotherapy department. They gained valuable insight into exciting projects taking place on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and saw first hand how the hospital is benefiting from local philanthrophy.

The visit follows the announcement that Horizon Discovery have committed to support Addenbrooke’s in providing the best possible care for patients for another year.

Over the last twelve months staff at the leading biotech company have taken part in activities to raise vital funds to enable the Addenbrooke’s team to transform a space within the busy Radiotherapy Department into a special patient room. This room will help to provide solace to patients when working through difficult decisions or issues that cannot easily be thought about within the constraints of a clinical setting.

Dr Darrin Disley, CEO of Horizon Discovery said ‘We know that Cambridge residents hold a special place in their hearts for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie, which are both clearly centres of excellence. We are so proud to have made such a difference to individuals battling cancer and look forward to working with ACT in 2017 to continue supporting Addenbrooke’s and its patients.’

Stephen Davies, CEO of Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust said ‘We are delighted to be working in partnership for another year with such an innovative and forward thinking organisation. It is heartening to see local businesses understanding their role in shaping remarkable healthcare and an incredible patient experience now and for the future.’
