The Greater Cambridge Partnership’s (GCP's) Executive Board has given the green light to the £8million Haslingfield Greenway, meaning all 12 proposed routes have now been approved.
The Greater Cambridge Greenways is a network of 12 first-class walking, cycling and equestrian routes that will provide improved links between Cambridge and surrounding towns and villages.
Cllr Roger Hickford, Chair of the GCP Executive Board, said: “The Greater Cambridge Greenways will encourage more people to walk or cycle into the city from surrounding areas, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality in our communities, while also improving routes for horse riders.
“With the final Cross City Cycling project to be completed next year and the lifting of the Abbey-Chesterton Bridge for the Chisholm Trail, approval of the final Haslingfield Greenway is shows the level of the GCP’s commitment to extending and enhancing our active travel network.”
With the network now agreed, work will begin on the detailed plans and negotiation of land for each of the 12 routes. Detailed plans will return to the Executive Board for final approval in due course.
The first route is expected to open for use in 2024, with construction on the final route estimated to end in 2028.

- Bottisham
- Horningsea
- Sawston
- Swaffhams
- Melbourn
- Comberton
- St Ives
- Waterbeach
- Fulbourn
- Haslingfield
- Linton (part of the Cambridge South East Transport scheme)
