Havel & Partners becomes first Czech law firm to adopt 'Discovery'

Luminance, the leading artificial intelligence platform for the legal profession, has announced that the largest Czech-Slovak law firm, Havel & Partners, is blazing a trail in innovation with the adoption of its cutting-edge ‘Discovery’ platform.

The leading law firm, which was recently named Czech Law Firm of the Year by Chambers Europe, opted to deploy Luminance after being tasked with a challenging and contentious dispute by a major client in the insurance and banking industry. Having previously struggled to find a platform that was able to analyse Czech documents, Havel & Partners concluded that Luminance was the solution that would enable them to gain complete insight into their document set and provide the best quality service to their clients. During the initial phase of the review, Havel & Partners’ team were able to analyse over 17GB of data in just few weeks.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for digital transformation for a number of law firms in the Central and Eastern European region, with many firms turning to cutting-edge AI tools as they face new challenges such as economic uncertainty, changing client demands and remote working. Indeed, with most of the legal team working from home, Havel & Partners particularly benefitted from Luminance’s project management tools including the ability to allocate tasks, track work progression and share findings, eliminating the possibility of duplication of work product.

Jan Sturm, Partner at Havel & Partners says: “It is really exciting for us to have a tool that accelerates the eDiscovery process whilst also allowing us to work seamlessly with Czech documentation. We need technology to help us find information amongst the huge amount of data and files we handle on a daily basis. Luminance allows us to get through this information in a smart way.”

Luminance’s Head of Discovery, Orianne Auger, adds, “We are very excited to work with Havel & Partners, a leading law firm and an early adopter of cutting-edge AI technology in the Czech Republic. The firm’s adoption of Luminance represents a continued shift we are seeing in the CEE legal market, as pioneering law firms like Havel & Partners realise the ability of machine learning to transform the litigation process.”

Powered by a unique blend of supervised and unsupervised machine learning, Luminance is able to rapidly read and form an understanding of legal data, immediately displaying this to the lawyer across a range of interactive, graphic widgets. Using Luminance’s powerful filtering, search and culling widgets, reviewers are then able to quickly zero-in on what is important. Further, by forming a conceptual understanding of legal documentation, Luminance is able to proactively surface similar documents, predict and flag discrepancies in coding behaviour across reviewers, and show depth of review across conceptually distinct areas of the data set.

Luminance currently supports over 300 law firms and organisations in more than 50 countries worldwide, including all of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms and over one-fifth of the ‘Global Top 100’ law firms. Luminance is currently used in over 70% of European countries.
