Question? Why is it that a screen colour cannot always be reproduced in print?
When you look at a computer screen, the first thing to realise is that it is black until an image is created on it. The colour schedule used for screens is RGB or Red, Green, Blue. With the absence of these colours you have black, when they are all added together you have white. The diagram above simply demonstrates this.
When you print onto paper you start with white and add colours to build the image. The schedule of colours used for colour printing is CMYK or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. The addition of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow makes Black. The diagram above illustrates this. You can see that this is the complete opposite of the way in which a computer screen works!. Just to complicate things further, printed work relies on reflected light whilst a computer screen projects its own light. This could all be a recipe for disaster but it need not be!
