Hewitsons appoints first female senior partner

Hewitsons has announced that Clare Colacicchi is to take on the role of Senior Partner from Charles Hewitson. Charles will provide continued support to the new senior team.

The appointment of the firm’s first female senior partner follows that of a new Managing Partner – Colin Jones – and is another significant step in a period of planned growth and change.

Clare is a highly experienced private client partner. She read Modern History at the University of Oxford before qualifying as a solicitor and she spent several years working in London before joining Hewitsons.

Clare’s expertise in trusts and estate planning is widely regarded as first class. She is known for her ability to communicate complex issues to clients in a clear manner. She also acts as a trustee of a number of family settlements and significant charities.  She has been recognised and praised repeatedly by the legal industry’s influential Legal 500 report for the quality of her work and standing in the field.

Managing Partner at Hewitsons, Colin Jones, said: “Clare is a highly proficient individual who has shown real commitment at Hewitsons. She is highly ambitious for herself and the firm, and this is reflected in the fact that she is one of a small but growing number of women to achieve senior positions in legal firms.   Clare will be a natural successor to Charles in the role of Senior Partner and I look forward to growing the firm further with her support.”

Commenting on her new role, Clare said: “I’ve enjoyed my legal career immensely and this latest challenge is one that I am eager to grasp. I am really looking forward to supporting Colin in driving Hewitsons forward, whilst also being an ambassador for the firm. The past financial year has been a strong one for Hewitsons and there are great plans in place for the firm as we enter an exciting era.”

Clare played a key part in Hewitsons’ recent global LawExchange International (LEI) network Spring conference in London, delivering a keynote speech to over 60 delegates focusing on how to meet client expectations in a demanding global market.

Clare continues: “The LEI network is hugely important to Hewitsons as it enables us to provide our increasingly international clients with access to the best legal advice outside the UK. My presentation focused on a key theme for legal practitioners working in both the corporate and private client arenas, and was inspired by a letter of thanks that we had received from a longstanding client.  The letter demonstrated how Hewitsons’ willingness to listen to clients, and then deliver a proactive solution that tackles the real problem, makes us different as a firm and underpins our success. The essential importance of building positive relationships with clients is something that I will continue to promote in my new role of Senior Partner.”

Clare is a Vice President of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) (having previously been Worldwide Chairman). Clare’s role with STEP has enabled her to work with professionals internationally across a wide range of professional services, such as law, banking and wealth management, broadening her experience within the professional services sector.
