Hewitsons bolsters Cambridge team with promotions

Law firm Hewitsons has shown its commitment to the development of its staff with the promotion of five members of the team to Associates – including three graduates who trained within the firm on its prestigious two-year placement programme.

Laurence Evans, Ceri Ridell, Kelly Wardell, James Frankland and Sarah Humble have all been promoted to Associates within the Cambridge office.  Laurence, Ceri and Kelly have all worked with the firm since graduating from law school, each having completed the placement programme. The placement is a unique opportunity which gives trainees a taste of four different legal specialisms, based on a six month rotation period, across the various departments in the firm.

Colin Jones, Managing Partner at Hewitsons LLP, said: “Our congratulations go to Laurence, Ceri, Kelly, James and Sarah on their well-deserved promotions. Hewitsons prides itself on attracting high calibre staff and once we have them we want to retain them. This is particularly demonstrated by Laurence, Ceri and Kelly who are moving up our firm’s ranks after joining us on the graduate trainee programme.”

Laurence works in the Corporate team advising private and public sector clients on a full range of corporate matters. He trained at Hewitsons and qualified into the Corporate team in September 2008. Ceri works in the Commercial Property team, dealing with non-contentious commercial property law and acting for commercial landlords, individuals, businesses and charities. She joined the firm in 2006 as a trainee solicitor and qualified in 2008. In addition, Kelly works in the Private Client team, dealing with private tax and estate planning, will drafting, estate administration and applications to the Office of the Public Guardian. She trained with Hewitsons and joined the team upon qualification as a solicitor in September 2005.

Meanwhile, James, who works within the Agricultural and Rural Business team, specialises in agricultural and rural property, acting for private landowners, large estates and landowning charities. Finally, Sarah, who joined Hewitsons in 2012, works in the Commercial Property team. She advises on a broad range of non-contentious commercial property matters for a full range of clients from institutional investors, to private individuals.

In addition, three trainees within the firm have now qualified as solicitors. Julia Routledge, Elizabeth McAteer and Katherine Hague will all take on roles as solicitors in the firm.
