Hewitsons donates winter foodbank collection

Law firm Hewitsons has donated a large collection of food and other essentials to a Cambridge charity to help those most in need this winter.

Partners, solicitors and non-legal staff collected eight large boxes full of canned goods, toiletries and other items at the firm’s office in Newmarket Road.

The collection was handed to Cambridge City Foodbank on Friday (December 14), at the charity’s warehouse in Orwell Furlong.

Co-organiser Alexandra Howard, a Senior Solicitor in Hewitsons’ Private Wealth team, said: “With Christmas coming up and the cold setting in, we know that this can be a particularly difficult time of year for many families and individuals across Cambridge.

“The services provided by Cambridge City Foodbank are absolutely vital for those in crisis. We hope that our donation will help to make things a little easier for as many people as possible this year.”

Jonathan Edney, Director of Cambridge Foodbank, added: “This winter we face a huge increase in need for the Foodbank as the cost of heating bites and the introduction of the Universal Credit benefits system causes payment delays for some.

“We rely on the goodwill of the public and socially conscious companies and organisations to provide the food needed by those facing financial crisis. We welcome initiatives such as this at Hewitsons and encourage others to get together to support local people by donating food to the Foodbank.”

Cambridge City Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks supported by The Trussell Trust. It operates eight foodbanks across Cambridge, each providing three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support for local people in crisis.
