In total, Hewitsons was recommended as a top-tier law firm in 15 practice areas across East Anglia and the East Midlands, and for the fourth year running maintained its Tier 2 ranking overall. Leading practice areas for Hewitsons included employment which was ‘among the best’ in the East Anglia, with Clare Waller, Valerie Lambert and Elizabeth Swinburn winning plaudits. The personal tax, trusts and probate practice area won special praise, with the team in East Anglia, including Daniel Curtis, Bernadette O’Reilly and Elizabeth Davies, being highly recommended as providing a ‘friendly service and clear advice’, while Clare Colacicchi in the East Midlands was considered to be ‘highly regarded’ in the sector. The ‘very personable’ Lucinda Brown helped the firm move up one place to Tier 1 for contentious trusts and probate in East Anglia.
Hewitsons also maintained its position as the leading regional law firm for charities in the East Anglia and East Midlands with the firm working for over 300 clients in the charity, social enterprise and community sectors. Chris Knight and Clare Colacicchi were identified as leading individuals in this practice area, with Chris Knight earning further recognition for his work in the education practice area in East Anglia, the East Midlands and the South East.
Elsewhere Charles Hewitson and Gareth Williams helped the firm remain at the top of the market for agriculture and estates in both East Anglia and the East Midlands. Other notable individuals at the Hewitsons team that received praise in the Legal 500 report included Deborah Sharples in East Anglia for her knowledge and expertise in the environment and planning sectors, Dominic Hopkins in the East Midlands for his work on commercial litigation, Louisa Leone in East Anglia who advises major sportswear companies, and Denise Wilkinson in East Anglia for her rural and property expertise for charities.
