Horses, the school run and a growing firm: the story behind Attune’s newest hires

Accountancy and advisory firm Attune has strengthened its growing team with two appointments and the way its newest recruits work says as much about the firm as the hires themselves.

Laura Page has joined the accounts team and Josephine Sclater has joined as Practice Manager. Both started in May and both were already well known to the partners, having worked alongside the team over several years. The appointments formalise long-standing relationships - something the firm sees as a mark of the culture it is building.

Laura, an accountant, works four six-hour days and finishes at 4pm - hours built around her children.

“I finish at four so I can be there for my children. I’ve never had to choose between doing the job properly and being a present parent. Here, it’s simply how we work.”

Josephine leads operational delivery across the practice, from systems to client onboarding. She has already increased her days as the firm’s workload has grown. Outside work, she keeps horses and her working day is influenced by them. During the recent heatwave she was able to leave the office early to bring the horses in before the worst of the heat, picking her work back up from home once they were settled.

“The horses need seeing to morning and evening, whatever the diary says. Being able to build my day around that, with the support of the team, makes a huge difference. Everything still gets done - just not always between nine and five.”

For Attune, the two stories reflect a deliberate choice about how the firm grows. Dominic Anthony, CEO, said:

“We’re growing, and we intend to keep growing, but not by burning people out. If someone does brilliant work, it doesn’t matter whether they start after seeing to their horses or finish in time for the school run. Flexibility isn’t a perk here, it’s how the firm is built. And I think it’s why people who’ve worked with us before choose to work with us again.”

Attune works with entrepreneurs, families and the businesses they’ve built, offering joined-up accountancy and advisory support through a single partner relationship.
