House of Cambridge launches its first, collaborative, 'extraordinary event' at IWM Duxford

House of Cambridge - the city's boldest new arts brand - is delighted to announce its first 'extraordinary event', taking place at IWM Duxford, with Cambridge Network as one of its main media partners. The immersive event - set in the 1940s and featuring a UK film premiere - is being led by the creative team in collaboration with some of the city's finest cultural brands.

On Saturday 29th September - in collaboration with the Cambridge Cocktail Weekend, the Cambridge International Jazz Festival, the Cambridge Film Festival  and Neon Moon Burlesque & Cabaret Club - House of Cambridge presents UNITED!... 'an immersive 1940s hangar dance on steroids, with a UK film premiere in the middle'.

For one night only, in two spectacular hangars at IWM Duxford, guests will experience a kaleidoscopic night of entertainment including 1940s cocktails, pin-ups, two live bands (a big jazz band to get dancing shoes out for, plus a ‘Puppini Sisters’ style trio to charm the audience), reenactors, Prosecco, an immersive vibe with an international Master of Ceremonies as Wing Commander for the night, vintage vehicles, hotdogs and more, all wrapped around the UK film premiere of Magpie, an independent UK film shot in East Anglia, centered around the friendly invasion of American troops in WWII.

In the film we’ll meet Lily (Hannah Morrish) whose husband, George, (Matt Downton) suffers the physical and psychological anguish of his experiences on the front line.  Amidst the frantic pace of the ‘friendly invasion’ of the US Eighth Air Force, Lily finds comfort in the companionship of Charlie (Mateo Oxley), an American serviceman stationed nearby. Her feelings for both lead us on a journey of love, loss, fear and friendship.

During the night, guests will be jumped back in time to a period of rations and blackouts, where posters abounded stating that ‘to dress extravagantly in wartime is worse than bad form, it is unpatriotic’.  However, we’re bending the rules and guests are encouraged to come in their finest and in character.  A bottle of champagne will be awarded to the best-dressed party-goer.

The House of Cambridge team is delighted to welcome Cambridge Network on board as one of their media partners for the event, alongside BBC Radio CambridgeshireIndependent Cambridge and CamCreative
