Hundreds seek Stansted job opportunities in North London

Over 500 job seekers passed through the doors of the latest Stansted Airport Jobs Fair in just four hours this week.

The event on Tuesday, held at Tottenham Hotspur FC’s White Hart Lane stadium, gave North London residents the chance to find out about the training and job opportunities on offer at the UK’s fastest growing major airport.

Good public transport links from Tottenham direct to the heart of the airport terminal make Stansted a quick and affordable commute for London residents. Subsidised travel is also available to all Stansted staff through the airport’s Travelcard which provides significant savings on rail, bus and coach fares.

Nearly 21 million passengers a year already use Stansted, and as the numbers continue to rapidly grow it’s anticipated that hundreds more jobs will be created.

Speaking at the event Marcella M’Rabety, Stansted Airport’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the huge interest shown by London residents in employment opportunities at Stansted.  The 30 airport employers who attended will be sorting through applications over the coming weeks and we look forward to hopefully seeing some of the people we have met in Tottenham at the airport in the near future. The airport employs over 11,000 people and is a very attractive and desirable location to work, either for people taking the first steps on the work ladder or looking for a new career direction.”

The airport companies participating in the Jobs Fair included MAG, FED EX, World Duty Free, National Express and UPS, who were on hand with details of current vacancies at the airport, from security to retail and catering to ground handling.

Operations Manager for National Express's Stansted Airport services Paul Crocker said: "National Express is the leading provider of coach services to Stansted Airport so it was fantastic to be able to join forces with them in our search for new talented drivers to carry people to the airport. We have a number of vacancies for both trainees and experienced drivers and we hope some of the friendly faces we saw at the event will be applying. Drivers literally are the wheels that keep our business turning and we look forward to welcoming people on board to support our provision of services right to the airport door.”

The Jobs Fair was organised by the airport in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and the London Boroughs of Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest.

Grant Cornwell MBE, CEO, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “For a number of years we have been working with our partners, local authorities and the Department for Work and Pensions to deliver a range of employment opportunities to the local community. Hosting regular Jobs Fairs at White Hart Lane stadium has been a successful way of reaching out to young job seekers. We hope that attendees today have been inspired to seek one of the many career paths put in front of them today by Stansted Airport.”

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Alan Sitkin said: “Working at Stansted Airport might be one way of making your career take off. As a key partner on the LSCC (London Stansted Cambridge Consortium), Enfield Council is proud to support this event which has proven to be popular with Enfield residents who are currently seeking employment. An airport is an exciting place where people work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience for passengers.
