I'm so grateful to be alive, Pippa tells Cambridge TV

Pippa Kent feels she has been given a second chance at life, having undergone a double lung transplant. In a candid interview, she speaks about how her life has been transformed by the generosity of people she has never met, and her upcoming fundraiser.

"I am incredibly lucky to be here," she says. "It's all due to my donor's family's decision to donate his organs for a transplant.

"It's still amazing to do things like walk upstairs without getting out of breath, go to an exercise class or even go to a bar with friends and not have to think about breathing."

The 30-year-old was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. Her health had been getting steadily worse and before she got the call to say that donor lungs were available, she had extended hospital stays, and was on an oxygen mask.

Pippa is now in training for a fundraising cycle ride between Papworth Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital in London on her third "lungaversary" in April 2020, with a bicycle from Townsends Light Blue Cycle Centre on Cambridge's Chesterton Road. The money raised will be donated to the hospitals that kept her alive, in memory of her donor.

She is also encouraging people to discuss organ donation and make their wishes known.
