IMI Europe partners with University of Cambridge - innoLAE conference and exhibition poised for next phase of growth

IMI Europe today announces a partnership with the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics (CIMLAE) for the delivery and future development of its Innovations in Large-Area Electronics conference and exhibition (innoLAE). The conference, based in Cambridge, UK, focuses on new ways to make electronics, leveraging novel processes and new functional materials to provide electronic functionality in thin, flexible and transparent designs. The innoLAE 2020 Conference will be held on 21-22 January 2020 at the Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Centre in Cambridge.

Since the first event in 2015, the innoLAE conference and exhibition has accelerated innovation and commercialisation in the sector by bringing together the technical and business communities to exchange information and publicise new commercial developments and technology breakthroughs.  Now, 5 events later, the event has outgrown two venues and continues to attract an equal balance of academic and industrial participants and a growing international audience. The conference focus is on the emerging industry of Large-Area Electronics, a new way of making electronics that includes printed, flexible and hybrid electronics for applications such as lighting, displays, energy conversion and storage, sensors and components, integrated smart systems and bioelectronics.

The EPSRC Centre, led by the University of Cambridge, recognises the potential for significant further development of the innoLAE conference and exhibition, whilst maintaining its tried and tested approach. IMI Europe will partner with the EPSRC Centre for the delivery of the January 2020 event and will take over full responsibility for the delivery of the 2021 event and beyond. The innoLAE Programme Committee comprising international representatives of the LAE community from industry and academia will provide continuity with prior events, inviting speakers from academia and industry and selecting papers for presentation from the Call for Papers.

“I am delighted to welcome IMI Europe as our delivery partner for innoLAE,” said Chris Rider, CIMLAE Director and innoLAE 2020 Conference Chair. “IMI Europe has a long and successful track record of delivering international conferences and training events. Its experience in the adjacent field of digital printing is highly relevant to the LAE sector. I feel sure that innoLAE attendees will find IMI Europe’s ideas for the future development of the innoLAE event both compelling and attractive.”

“We are excited to make our first venture into an adjacent technology area with innoLAE,” comments Tim Phillips, Managing Director IMI Europe. “IMI Europe has 20 years of experience in technology event organisation and delivery, mostly in the field of inkjet printing, and my own research background in displays and semiconductors means the large area electronics field is of great interest. We look forward to adding this event to our portfolio and continuing to deliver a successful event in future.”

About CIMLAE

The EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics (CIMLAE) is one of 16 EPSRC Centres for Manufacturing Research funded by the EPSRC and is a partnership between Large-Area Electronics research groups at Imperial College London and at the Universities of Cambridge, Manchester and Swansea. The EPSRC Centre is led by the University of Cambridge and was created to tackle the technical challenges of multifunctional system integration of Large-Area Electronics in high-growth markets through a programme of innovative manufacturing research in partnership with industry. The innoLAE conference was set up as the EPSRC Centre’s premier communication vehicle for outputs from its research programme, as a meeting place for the Large-Area Electronics community to accelerate the adoption of LAE technologies by the wider electronics manufacturing industry.

About innoLAE

The Innovations in Large-Area Electronics (innoLAE) conference and exhibition has enjoyed 5 years of growth since the first event in 2015. innoLAE highlights the most innovative and exciting aspects of large-area electronics - a new way of making electronics that includes printable, plastic, organic, flexible and bio- electronics. innoLAE 2019 featured 3 keynote talks and 48 speakers in 12 technical sessions. innoLAE 2019 drew over 225 subject matter experts from 21 countries and over 110 organizations, with 25 exhibitors and 55 posters.
