Introduction to Business Mentoring
The Introduction to Business Mentoring Event was hosted in partnership with Harpenden Town Council, the Harpenden Collective, the Institute of Directors (IoD), and the Association of Business Mentors (ABM).
Chris Dunn, East of England Chair of the ABM, was invited to be the keynote speaker and facilitate a fireside chat with Natalie Harmer, Co-Founder of the Harpenden Collective, and mentors Mohamed Jaffer and Gurnam Selvarajah.
The evening rounded off with questions from the audience, followed by a lively networking session.
Chris Dunn on the Power of Professional Mentoring
Chris brought over 20 years of mentoring experience to the session.
He is a Senior Practitioner accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and a Fellow of the Association of Business Mentors (ABM). As East of England Chair of the ABM, he is working to grow the professional mentoring community across the region.
In his keynote, Chris shared recent research on the impact of mentoring, outlined what makes mentoring different from other business support, and offered practical tips for both mentors and mentees.
The session also covered:
- The core skills of a professional business mentor.
- Differentiating between formal and informal mentoring.
- Where to find the right mentor for your business.
There was plenty of interaction, too, with attendees contributing their own experiences and questions throughout the evening.
As Chris explained on the night:
Mentoring isn’t about giving advice or telling people what to do. It’s about listening well, asking better questions, and helping people unlock their potential and fulfil their business ambitions.
Last week’s event highlighted the positive impact of mentoring on businesses navigating change, growth, or new challenges.
