IOP Awards celebrate companies that make the most of physics

Entry to the Institute of Physics (IOP) Innovation Awards 2013 - the only awards recognising companies in the UK and Ireland that have built success on the innovative application of physics - is now open.

Physics has been at the heart of innovations from the light bulb to the Large Hadron Collider. Today physics powers industries across the UK and Ireland. From oil exploration to aerospace and regenerative medicine to robotics, physics and physicists drive the success of the best and brightest companies.

The IOP says: "We understand the skills required to take an idea and make it work. We want to celebrate companies that have the spark of innovation. Companies that can bring cutting-edge technology to the real world, that can take an old idea and use it to create something new. Companies that know how to use their experience and expertise to provide the products and services that people need.

"The Awards are for companies that operate in the UK or Ireland, of all sizes and from any sector, that have successfully addressed a commercial need using a physics-based innovation. This could come in the form of a product or process but it must involve the application of physics or physics expertise."
