IWM Duxford crowned Best Educational Day Out

IWM Duxford is delighted to announce that it was crowned 'Best Educational Day Out' in the East in the 2019 Day Out With the Kids Family Favourites Awards.

Voted by over 25,000 families, this is the second annual Family Favourites Awards, which aims to celebrate the array of amazing days out running across the country.

IWM Duxford invites families to step into the history of aviation and discover the stories of those who lived and worked at RAF Duxford, with the chance to explore giant hangars full of iconic aircraft. From seeing the Second World War Spitfire to walking under the belly of the Vulcan bomber, there’s plenty to do and see at Duxford, with family friendly activities running throughout the school holidays.

This winter, kids can take part in Flight Academy with the chance to dress up like a pilot and take on the pilot reflex challenges before designing the perfect paper plane and parachute, or get hands on as Aeroplane Investigators with the museum’s team of expert conservators to help save Duxford’s iconic aircraft.

Additional activities include Family Mission: D Day Edition which invites families to collect their Jump Bag on arrival and become the latest recruits of paratroopers and learn more about this defining historical invasion whilst the new STEM activity, Cockpit Command, is a fun and interactive game based on the technological developments seen in the American Air Force where families will learn how engineering and maths informed cockpit designers in the 1940s.

IWM Duxford is open Monday to Sunday 10am-5pm, (please note that from 4-5pm only Airspace and Visitor Centre will be open, with all other hangars closed from 4pm).
