KPMG brings on the music for Action for Children

Businesses in Cambridge have raised over £1,000 for Action for Children by taking part in a music quiz hosted by KPMG.

The quiz – which was held at the DoubleTree Hilton in Cambridge - saw over 70 people from local businesses including Quixant, Cambridge Assessment, Mills & Reeve, Handlesbanken, the FD Centre and HSBC go head to head through six rounds of musical challenge covering Motown, one song to the tune of another, the shows and album sleeves, to name but a few from entertainer and quiz maestro Jon Kutner.  Jon currently holds the record for being Britain’s longest running music quiz host, last month celebrating his 25th anniversary at his Bedford quiz every Sunday night.

Ultimate champions on the evening were ‘Vinyl Richie’ made up of staff from Cambridge Assessment who even managed to get maximum scores on the motown and the James Bond connection round.  They were however hottly contested by ‘Long Haired Lovers from Liverpool’ (HSBC) who narrowly lost out by just one point.

Commenting on the night Charles le Strange Meakin, Partner from KPMG in Cambridge and leader for his team “All Byte Nighters” who limped home second from last in the competition said: “I would like to thank all of the businesses that took part in what was a hugely enjoyable evening and in doing so helped to raise a fantastic amount of cash for  Action for Children who do an amazing job working with disadvantaged young people.

“The level of youth homelessness in the UK is something that I personally feel needs addressing urgently. Each year in the UK 80,000 young people find themselves homeless and one in three are care leavers.  As a firm KPMG works closely with a number of homeless organisations as part of our “Action on Homelessness” programme and our office in Cambridge has chosen to support Action for Children where we hope to raise over £100,000 this year.  The quiz was hard fought by all who attended and Vinyl Richie were worthy winners on the night”.

Kelly Dunn, Audit Partner at KPMG added: “We are very grateful to the local businesses who came along to make this a hugely enjoyable evening and gave so generously to help Action for Children continue the vital work they do in helping young people to achieve their potential.”

Action for Children has been supporting young, disadvantaged people for over 145 years and has a support programme running in Bury St Edmunds.  Their biggest fundraising event is Byte Night which sees members of the business and technology sectors sleep-out overnight to raise funds for the charity to ensure ever child has a safe and loving place to call hom.

Charles has been a supporter of Byte Night for six years and is currently co-chair of Byte Night East Anglia, one of ten sleep out events across the UK.  The next sleep out is planned for 7th October and anyone interested in taking part can sign up here : http://www.bytenight.org.uk/register-for-byte-night/

Action for Children have recently joined forces with Wrigley and as part of the Wrigley’s Global Smile Back campaign where around the world they will help to ‘protect children’s smiles’ for years to come,  from 23 May until 16 July, every time a pack of Extra sugar free chewing gum is sold across the UK, Wrigley will make a donation to Action for Children.
