KPMG expansion in East Anglia sees changes at the top in Cambridge

KPMG is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles le Strange Meakin as office senior partner for the firm’s East Anglian operations based in Cambridge.

Charles (pictured), who joined KPMG’s Audit Practice in 1989 and was made Partner in 2009, has worked across KPMG’s Cambridge and Ipswich offices for the past 10 years.  He is well known to the business community in Cambridge and is currently co-chair of Byte Night East Anglia.  He specialises in working with businesses in the food, agri and technology space and leads the firm’s family business operations across the South and East of England.

Charles, who has been managing the office in an interim role since March, is replacing Steve Muncey who is moving to Norwich to oversee the firm’s newest office which was opened this week.  Steve will take on the role of regional chairman for the firm’s operations in the East of England.

Commenting on his appointment, Charles said : “I am absolutely delighted to be taking charge of our fantastic Cambridge operations in East Anglia.  We are privileged to work in one of the most exciting cities in the UK where dynamic new startups rub shoulders with successful historic family businesses.

“Since our move to our new offices in Botanic House a few years ago we have substantially grown our market share locally and I will continue to build on this achievement.  We have a great team here of 120 staff representing the full range of services offered by KPMG, it’s a great place to work and I am very excited about the future.

“With the addition of our new East Anglian office in Norwich we have a number of really skilled people working across the region and I am looking forward to continue working with Steve as we grow the KPMG East Anglian practice together.”

Charles’ will continue in his role as head of audit for the region and his appointment to senior partner consolidates additions to the team earlier this year in the form of audit partner Kelly Dunn, director Richard Bartlett-Rawlings and private client partner Dan Crowther.   As part of the management team in Cambridge Charles is joined by Joe Faulkner as head of business development for KPMG in the East of England.  Joe was previously based at the firm’s head office in London where he managed several large corporate accounts and lives locally with his family.

Mr Faulkner concluded : “Cambridge is such a unique environment with an unrivalled ecosystem between academics, investors, startups and corporate businesses which makes it a hugely exciting place to work. We have some amazing clients in Cambridge and I am looking forward in working with Charles to achieve further growth and continuing to build on the success of our highly skilled teams that are based here.”
