A study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine showed that in patients over 70 years old, who had previously suffered a fall, participants who received a very high dose of Vitamin D (50mcg or 2,000iu per day) were 28% more likely to suffer another fall.
Whilst the research group who carried out the work recognise the tentative nature of the conclusions of their relatively small study, it does support Cambridge Nutraceuticals’ view that simply adding more of an ingredient to a supplement does not necessarily make it better for you.
In order for a supplement to be launched by Cambridge Nutraceuticals under its FutureYou brand, it must address the strict selection criteria:
- The product/ingredients need to be supported by scientific data demonstrating efficacy upon consumption.
- All products must have proven bioavailability.
- All products must provide an optimal daily dose to the consumer.
Adam Cleevely, CEO of Cambridge Nutraceuticals said, “We take the formulation of our supplements very seriously. Before any product is launched, we must demonstrate that it will deliver a benefit to the end user. This ethos is encapsulated in our company’s promise - health supplements scientifically proven to deliver more of the good stuff to your body.”
FutureYou Vitamin D contains 25mcg (1,000iu) of Vitamin D, which is formulated with black pepper extract to boost its bioavailability. Vitamin D is made under the skin in a reaction to sunlight however, there is no ambient ultraviolet sunlight of the appropriate wavelength from mid-October to April in Britain, meaning that regardless of time spent outside during these months, you can’t get enough vitamin D from your skin during winter.
