Leading product development consultancy Inspiralia acquires Cambridge’s Fen Technology

Cambridge-based Fen Technology has been acquired by Inspiralia, the €21m product development consultancy headquartered in Madrid, Spain, in a deal that significantly strengthens the group’s technical product development offer, both in scope and depth.

Inspiralia offers a highly developed suite of new product development services, Innovation Strategy, Technical Development and Market Launch.

Well established across Europe as a reliable product development partner, the Group is growing its operations in the US and now also, with the addition of Fen Technology, in the UK. Inspiralia’s business roadmap shows ongoing expansion across the group both by way of organic growth and further acquisitions.

Fen Technology, established by five electronics development engineers in 2002, has amassed an impressive customer base, having completed large numbers of innovative hardware and software development projects for clients ranging from tech start-ups to global brands, including Bosch and Schlumberger.

Fen Technology’s cutting-edge design skills in such areas as IoT and Narrow Band wireless communications have been applied across a broad range of technology and industry sectors, including scientific instrumentation, environmental monitoring systems, portable vital-signs medical equipment, industrial process control systems and advanced high-volume consumer products.

The business additionally offers broad-based technical consultancy services in areas involving the deployment of electronics.

Ciaran McAleer, Business Director and co-founder, Fen Technology, says: “The successful completion of Fen’s acquisition by the Inspiralia Group has allowed us to combine Fen’s strengths in electronic design services with Inspiralia’s successful and thriving product development business.

“Supplementing the parent company’s powerful offering, Fen will significantly extend Inspiralia’s development expertise.”

Patrick Nicholson, Managing Director of Fen Technology, adds: “Cambridge, UK is a world-renowned new product development centre of excellence, and we have been keen to exploit this key strategic location for some time. Fen technology was the obvious choice, with its strong track record of developing cutting-edge electronics-based products across so many business sectors and applications.  We are excited about this new growth phase for both companies.”

Following the acquisition, Fen Technology was visited by a former member of PERA, the UK consultancy that created Inspiralia in 2005. The organisation, formed by Winston Churchill in 1946 to inspire growth, create jobs and boost economies, initially established Inspiralia as a research centre focused on supporting businesses in France, Spain and Italy. Inspiralia gained its independence in 2013 and prospered through continuing growth which consolidated its 360-degree product development services.
