Let them eat 'selfie' cake

'Keep Calm and Take a Selfie' -that's what Free Rein challenged both the exhibitors and visitors to do at the recent Anglia Business Exhibition.

As a result  the company had people queuing up to submit their entries via the iPads on Stand 62, via their own smart phones and indirectly via twitter when they got back to their offices the following day.

The winners of the ‘selfie’ competition were Caroline Gould of Caroline Gould Events and Richard Pond of Business Connected, whose selfies were immortalised in icing, sponge, jam and cream as ‘mini-me’ selfie cakes.

Selfie Cake Winners

Caroline and Richard were delight by their wins and entered into the spirit of the competition by posing with their cakes and tweeting their success on social media.

Commenting on her win, Caroline said “Social media is a great tool to connect with new customers. The Free Rein ‘selfie’ competition is a simple example of how you can make it work for your business”. A sentiment echoed by Richard's comment, “The ‘selfie’ competition was light hearted fun at a business exhibition. It does however highlight the opportunity that exists by engaging people via social media”.

The word 'selfie' was only announced as being the 'word of the year' by the Oxford English Dictionary in November 2013. While many people are increasingly comfortable using social media within their private lives, many businesses are still reluctant to put social media at the heart of their marketing strategy.

Free Rein Digital

Free Rein would like to thank everyone who took the time to join in with its ‘selfie’ competition. It was fun, it was light hearted, but hopefully it has shown the businesses at the Anglia Business Exhibition just how powerful social media can be.

If you want to see some of the other entries please go to www.twitter.com and search for the Hashtag #ABE14Selfie or @freereindigital.

On a slightly more serious note, if you would like one of the Free Rein team to come and talk with you about how to use Social Media to drive more traffic to your website and help you to win new business please email Jeff Hume on jeff.hume@free-rein.net or give him a call on 01473 810002.
