Local businesses keep Cambridge’s Bonfire Night free for the public

A group of community-minded local businesses are supporting this year’s Cambridge Bonfire Night to ensure that it remains free for everyone in the City. However, there is still some way to go says Heather Sonnet from Brewin Dolphin, which is championing the call for businesses to support the annual free fireworks display on Midsummer Common on Monday 5th November.

The event, which is provided by Cambridge City Council and organised by charity, Cambridge Live, costs nearly £70,000 to produce each year.  Forty thousand pounds of this amount comes from local businesses who come together to form a corporate club that has managed to ensure the event remains free for more than 20 years.

Attracting over 25,000 people, the event brings together people from across the city and beyond from all walks of life to enjoy a safe and spectacular display from Pains, one the UK’s most established pyrotechnics companies.

Brewin Dolphin is leading on the campaign to hit the target and is already half way there with more than 22 businesses and colleges chipping in to help – however, there is a long way to go and time is moving on.

Heather Sonnet, Head of the Cambridge Office at Brewin Dolphin said, “It costs £70,000 to organise the free-to-view Bonfire Night for the people of Cambridge and we want to make sure that it is as memorable and stunning as ever. Brewin Dolphin is proudly sponsoring the event and we'd like to invite your business to get involved as well. Show your customers, your staff, your friends, your family and your city that you are contributing towards making this special community event as sparkling as ever.”

Former business champion, Lily Bacon from RealVNC added, “Bonfire Night is a long-standing Cambridge tradition and one which RealVNC has been proud to be involved with for over three years.  We were thrilled to hand the baton over to Brewin Dolphin to ensure that this local business support continues and grows to make a success of this free event for the whole community and strongly encourage business leaders to join in with the campaign to secure its future”.
