Local mediation guru featured in high profile Football League Managers' magazine

John Crawley - local mediation and conflict resolution guru - is featured alongside famous football people in The Manager (the League Managers' Association magazine) giving advice on how to have successful difficult conversations. He suggests that acting like a meerkat (tune in, listen and stay calm before you react) may help, and also introduces his unique 'RESPECT' model of conflict coaching.

John has given advice and support to many individuals and professions and was delighted to be asked to contribute to a feature on difficult conversation.  Football is notoriously full of 'difficult' characters so all successful managers and coaches do need well-honed conflict resolution and leadership skills.

'Metaphors and models can assist people to get an idea of what might work and what might not,' says John.

'The article talks about being like a meerkat rather than a shark, rabbit or cuddly dog.'

There's also advice on how to 'tune in, listen and stay calm before you react. Broadly I am asking people at work to take a positive approach to conflict and challenge behaviour respectfully if necessary. Although difficult behaviour can be upsetting and irritating, many people just need a good listening to and some empathic problem solving.'

John has also worked with many facilitators, mediators and coaches developing their practice. He has recently devised the 'RESPECT' model of conflict coaching which is also introduced in the article above.
