Lord Gold hosts special dinner

Influential Prince's Trust supporters from across Central England came together for a special dinner in the House of Lords last month, to hear about the challenges facing young people.

Hosted by British lawyer and life peer in the House of Lords, Lord Gold, guests also had the chance to hear about The Trust's aspirations to raise vital new funds in the central region.

Attendees were also treated to an inspirational talk from entrepreneur Lloyd Dorfman CBE, who will take over as our Chairman later this year.

Mr Dorfman spoke of the importance of supporting young people and his own experiences in starting the Travelex Group as a young independent entrepreneur.

Lloyd Dorfman CBE said: “I've been involved with The Trust for over sixteen years because I am passionate about helping disadvantaged young people to change their lives.

I remember starting my journey with Travelex from a one room office and the need to give young people a helping hand is as vital today as it has ever been.

This year, we will help more than 14,500 young people across the Midlands and East of England. Of the young people supported last year, more than 77% moved into employment, education or further training.

Prince’s Trust alumni and patron Scott Weavers-Wright was MC for the evening and told the audience how he set-up his first IT business with help from the Enterprise programme before transforming family business Kiddicare into a multi-channel retailer. Mr Weavers-Wright’s latest project, Haatch, supports talented young start-ups with capital and business support.

Young Ambassadors Carl Evans, 27, Patrice Dantzie, 31 and Jack Squires, 21, attended the event and Carl told guests how The Trust helped him to set up his own recruitment firm. The evening was brought to a close with a performance from Carly Jayne Panter, whose career as a professional singer was launched through the Enterprise programme.

John O’Reilly, Central England Director for The Prince’s Trust said, "We are extremely grateful to Lord Gold for hosting the event, our speakers for their support in promoting The Trust and all the guests whose invaluable contributions make it possible to change the lives of thousands of vulnerable young people.”
