Lyctoec says; "In this work we assess how cocoa flavanols and methylxanthines, two major Theobroma cacao bioactives, cooperate with intestinal microbiota in regulation of mitochondrial function.
"Preliminary results suggest that gut microbiota endorses biotransformation of cocoa flavanols and formation of short chain fatty acids – important messengers connecting gut bacteria and mitochondria.
"This may open a new way to use proprietary design dark chocolate to boost mitochondria metabolism by modulating gut microbiota."
Congress will take place from 21st – 23rd October 2015.
