M11 road works begin this weekend

A wide-ranging package of essential maintenance work on the M11 begins this weekend (from tomorrow Friday 5 May) with work taking place at junction 8 (Stansted Airport).

The slip roads leading to and from the A120 will be closed over five weekends from 9pm on the Friday until 6am on the Monday, with the first of these being next weekend.

The slip roads will be closed for three week nights between 8pm and 6am, with access on and around Priory Wood roundabout restricted.

When closed, drivers will be diverted via the Priory Wood roundabout and Birchanger roundabout to join the M11 at junction 8.

The maintenance package will consist of a number of schemes on the M11 and A120 to complete this essential work during spring and summer 2017.

This work will include:

  • Resurfacing patches of the M11 in both directions between junctions 6 and 8, and the slip roads at junctions 8 and 8A;
  • Full resurfacing of the junction 8 roundabout at Thremhall Avenue, the A120 Priory Wood Roundabout, and the slip roads onto the A120, for Stansted Airport;
  • Repairing embankments on the M11 at the junction 7 northbound exit slip road, on the M11 southbound between junctions 7 and 8, and the road bridge crossing the M11 at Cantelupe Farm between junctions 11 and 12;
  • Replacing street lights with energy efficient models on the M11 northbound entry slip road at junction 12;
  • Repairing drainage on the M11 at junction 12 at Haggis Farm;
  • Replacing digital messaging signs on the M11 at junction 8;
  • Replacing noise barriers on the M11 southbound between junctions 9 and 8 at Wendens Ambo;
  • Adding signs and road markings to the A11 Fourwentways junction with the A1307.
