The Mayor, Cllr Jeremy Benstead, will officially launch this year’s event in the city while the rainbow flag is raised above the Guildhall.
There will be a busy programme of talks, walks, social activities, films, exhibitions and more to mark LGBT History Month in Cambridge and beyond during February, organised by local voluntary organisation Encompass Network.
Events taking place during LGBT History Month include:
- Capturing Cambridge Inside Stories – Archivist Kevin Roberts discusses the LGBT archives in the county archives: Thursday 2 Feb, 7pm, Museum of Cambridge, Castle Street
- Shrouk El-Attar speaks about being an LGBT refugee: Thursday 2 Feb, 7.30pm, Jesus Lane Friends’ Meeting House
- LGBT History Month Rainbow Party: Saturday 4 Feb, 9pm-2am, Q Club, Station Road
- LGBT Community Conference hosted by Cambridgeshire Police: Wednesday 8 Feb, 10am-4pm
- Writer Saleem Haddad discusses how ‘Deviance is Revolutionary’: Thursday 9 Feb, 7.30pm, Jesus Lane Friends’ Meeting House
- LGBT+ History Walking Tour: meet at King’s College, Saturday 11 Feb, 11am-12.30pm
- Be The Rainbow: help form a human rainbow flag, Thursday 23 Feb, 1.30pm, Shire Hall, Castle Street
Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “LGBT History Month is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the role that the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community play in the city.
“Events like this are a reminder that Cambridge is a diverse, welcoming place for all our communities, and I hope everyone will get out and enjoy this packed programme of events.”
LGBT History Month takes place nationally every February, and celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
