MedImmune supports Institute of Metabolic Science seminar series

MedImmune, the global biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, is pleased to announce that it is supporting the Institute of Metabolic Science’s 2013-14 external research seminar series in Cambridge through the provision of an educational grant. The seminars are widely attended and focus on a wide range of topics within the field of metabolic disease research.

Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, Co-Director of the Institute of Metabolic Science, commented: “The Institute of Metabolic Science very much appreciates the educational grant from MedImmune in supporting our Michaelmas series of seminars. The seminars, which cover a wide-range of leading-edge research topics and are given by world-leading academic researchers from around the world, form an important part of our work to educate, inform and stimulate scientific debate. MedImmune will soon be our neighbour on the Cambridge BioMedical Campus and we are pleased to have established a connection.”

Matthew Coghlan, MedImmune’s Director of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease (CVMD) Research, commented: “The world-leading research of the Institute of Metabolic Science is of great interest to MedImmune, and we are delighted to be able to provide support for some of its educational programme. MedImmune is investing in its own research in the field of metabolic disease biology and is currently building a new CVMD Research Group within its Cambridge-based team. We are therefore also delighted that Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly has agreed to work with us as an advisor on metabolic disease and look forward to his contribution to our ongoing research into new medicines.”
