Memorandum forges strong bond between airport and Fire Service

Partnership work between Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) and Cambridge Airport is stronger than ever following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement was signed this week to renew their loyalty to one another - both in operations and training.

The MOU confirms in writing the established partnership between Cambridge Airport and the Service which is centred on an understanding of operational requirements of how the two organisations work together in emergency situations.

CFRS has benefitted from a long-standing verbal agreement which reflects Marshall commitment to work with the community, as well as providing the Service with valuable training facilities. This is also reciprocated where firefighters at the airport utilise CFRS facilities.

Maurice Moore, Area Commander at CFRS, said: “Having grown up in the Cambridge area, you realise how important companies like Marshall are to the community and it’s really commendable that they look beyond their business requirements and work with the community and public services.

“As well as this operational agreement, Marshall has an outstanding record of supporting the community by releasing its staff to be on-call firefighters, and so the skills of those staff are to the mutual benefit of both fire services.

“This MOU makes the bond stronger than ever and will ensure that should an emergency occur, there’s a full understanding of how each other will deal with the incident.”

Dave Thomas, Chief Fire Officer at Cambridge Airport, added: “Both I and Maurice have worked for more than 30 years for our respective services and have seen how this long-standing relationship has helped both partners. We look forward to growing this partnership now and making the best use of each other to benefit those we support.”
