The Mention has landed

Find out how Method has taken one of its favourite phrases of 'share and share alike' to the next level by creating a platform to supply must-see content to its audience.

‘The Mention’ is a weekly mix of news and stories carefully handpicked by the Method team to give readers a snapshot of the week just passed.

Dropping into inboxes at mid-morning every Friday, The Mention is built on microblogging platform and social networking website Tumblr, which allows users to post various types of content to a short form blog. The Mention is essentially made up of nuggets of internet gold that may not have caught people’s eyes as they frantically make their way through the working week. Most of us tend to snatch a few minutes of news on the radio or online each day, but The Mention celebrates stories that perhaps go under the radar.

Content-wise, The Mention aims to give readers a healthy dose of cultural and trend-led news, unique and stimulating discoveries as well as relevant Cambridge-based intelligence. Method’s brand & strategy director Kirsten Corrigan says she hopes The Mention will inspire others to share its content. “We want to bring people an array of content that simply must be seen and shared. It will help our clients get a grip on trends and what people are talking about on a national and regional scale,” she says. “We also want The Mention to be entertaining and something that people will enjoy reading over morning coffee at the end of a busy week.”

Content for The Mention is curated in a week-long process that sees the team scour the internet for relevant, interesting chunks of content that are then whittled down to definite must-see bites. From social media must-know stories to the latest viral video, if it’s on the internet, one of the Method team will have seen it.

Creative director Jillian Boys was responsible for making sure The Mention’s fascia was inviting and easy to use. “I wanted The Mention to be clean and effortless to use. The concept of the project is quite simple, and I wanted that to be mirrored in its design,” she said.
