“We want to give Mitcham’s Corner back its sense of identity and place and so this traffic turner is named after the big shop, founded by James Mitcham, a successful, loved and well-remembered draper and outfitter," say the Friends.
"We who live here now want YOU who drive here to realise that this is our community and we love and cherish it. We don’t want it to become a corridor for passers through, dominated by supermarkets and chain stores. We have lived here for many years, our children grow up here, our parents grow old here. We are the Northern gateway to historic Cambridge.

"We have used recycled mannequins donated for the project, refurbished by Morley’s at Milton, decorated with care and placed on private land around the area. After the event they will be auctioned for the Tom’s Trust charity.
"We have great participation locally and throughout the city. The event will be opened by local businesswoman and draper Pippa Sandison of Boudoir Femme so do come along and join in.
"Jon Harris, esteemed local artist, art historian and architectural historian is producing a map especially for the event so do come and see this one-off piece and use this to explore the area and see many of the hidden gems. Enjoy the exhibition and take time to stop for a while in this important part of Cambridge which is home to a very diverse, local community.
"Please enjoy the models. They link Mitcham’s shop to the present and he, no doubt, would have been proud."
