More than 300 years of legal experience in Hewitsons’ expanding real estate team

Hewitsons has expanded its substantial real estate offering with four new appointments, adding to its well established team of property specialists, which now stands at almost 40 across its four offices.

Maria Hearne and Barbara Judkins both joined the firm in January. Maria started with the firm following the completion of her training and advises on non-contentious commercial property matters. Meanwhile, Barbara is a property litigation specialist with nearly 20 years' experience. Barbara trained with a London firm and has spent periods in practice in both Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

Two further new recruits also joined the team last year. The first is Jo Showan, who trained and qualified with a leading international law firm, where she acted for notable high street retailers, as well as the UK’s largest property investment companies. The second new appointment was Julia Routledge, who has joined the planning team following the successful completion of her training with Hewitsons.

These appointments at the Cambridge office take the already experienced and established team to 19, with a further 19 other property lawyers in the firm’s other offices in London, Northampton and Milton Keynes.

James Simpson, Partner, said: “Our team is deeply rooted in Cambridge and the region. These new appointments will further strengthen our services to the property and development industries. In the Cambridge office we have between us over 300 years combined experience – perfectly demonstrating the depth of knowledge within our team.”

The highly regarded Real Estate team at Hewitsons was recently praised in the prestigious Legal 500 Directory including Top Tier rankings for its Environment, Planning and Property Litigation divisions.

The team offers a full property service, including planning, contentious and non-contentious construction, environment and property dispute resolution.

Recent examples of transactions include acting for Hill Residential Ltd in relation to the delivery of the first phase of open market housing of up to 249 new dwellings on the University of Cambridge’s prestigious North West Cambridge development and acting for the Howard Group on their freehold acquisition of the landmark Spillers Mill apartments at the CB1 development close to Cambridge train station. The team has also advised Gonville and Caius College on a number of projects, including its development in Gillies Close.
