Mumford Theatre launches membership scheme

Cambridge’s Mumford Theatre has launched a new membership scheme that aims to offer a packed programme of professional theatre at affordable prices.

Situated in the heart of Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge Campus, the Mumford Theatre presents a range of touring professional, local community and student theatre, as well as music concerts.

The new scheme, called Mumford Friends Membership, costs £25 per year and allows members to purchase up to two tickets for the majority of performances at just £5 each.

Theatre Manager, Richard Purkiss, explained: “We want to make theatre an accessible and regular part of people’s lives rather than an occasional treat, and one way of encouraging wider and more regular theatre attendance is by reducing the financial barrier.

“We hope these £5 tickets mean that people can enjoy an evening of professional theatre without breaking the bank.  Affordable prices might also encourage theatre-goers to become more adventurous and buy tickets for productions they are less familiar with.”

The new Mumford Friends Membership scheme coincides with the launch of a new ticketing system.  The Spektrix online booking system is already used by a number of arts organisations, including venues such as the Royal Court and Bristol Old Vic.

The Mumford’s programme includes a mix of well-known classics and more modern work.  Amongst the upcoming shows are productions of Oscar Wilde’s Lady Windermere’s Fan, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and a new classical contemporary programme by the Joss Arnott Dance company.
