Remember Britain offers tourists and residents premium and practical products and currently stocks two Cambridge-branded items – an automatic opening umbrella and messenger-style bag – with more in the pipeline.
The products feature artwork specially commissioned from established Cambridge-based figurative artist, Sam Motherwell. The designs incorporate familiar buildings and characters and both souvenirs also come with a city map drawn by local artist Jon Harris.
Dani (48), who is married to a former Cambridge resident and has a five-year-old daughter, said: "I was born and brought up in Germany and was enthralled with the city when I first visited more than 20 years ago. It's a love affair that continues today.
"When I realised there were no high quality gifts available for tourists that illustrated the beauty, history and uniqueness of the city, I decided to start my own souvenir business to fill this void. The umbrella features fibreglass ribs, so it doesn't break in the first gust of wind, and the bags are lightweight and made from reused plastic bottles."
The umbrella’s RRP is £19.98 and the bag’s RRP is £7.99. Remember Britain is donating a percentage of the profits from every item sold to local charity Cambridge Past, Present & Future (PPF), which champions the protection and enjoyment of green open spaces and the sustainable development of the city and its surroundings.
Mary Nealon, Head of Fundraising & Communications at CambridgePPF, said: “We are grateful to Dani for supporting our work through the sale and promotion of these wonderful new Cambridge souvenirs.
"The umbrella and bag are a stylish, practical, ‘must have’ for Cambridge residents and visitors alike. Their distinctive appearance and the inclusion of a beautiful, useful map really set them apart from other items available. We especially like the robust design of the umbrella and the reuse of plastic bottles in the bag.”
Remember Britain’s Cambridge souvenirs are being sold through CambridgePPF, The Museum of Cambridge, Heffers bookshop, a selection of carefully-selected gift shops in the city centre and from Dani direct at [email protected].
Dani is currently working on extending her Cambridge product line and has long-term plans to roll out the venture to other tourist cities in the UK. She is also in the process of establishing an e-commerce website.
