New charity Cambridge Live to run cultural services

NEW charity, Cambridge Live, will take over the operation of a number of Cambridge City Council’s cultural services today (1 April).

Cambridge Live will run the Corn Exchange, Cambridge Folk Festival and the council’s outdoor event programme.

Council staff already working in these areas will transfer to Cambridge Live and the council will continue to offer a subsidy to support the charity’s activity. This subsidy will reduce over time.

Antoinette Jackson, Chief Executive of Cambridge City Council, said:

“We have taken a bold step but one that we believe is right for the people of Cambridge and the council.

“This new way of delivering cultural services will give Cambridge Live the chance to develop arts and cultural activity and we look forward to what promises to be an exciting future working together.”

Sara Garnham, Chair of Cambridge Live said:

“This is a momentous and historic day for the cultural landscape of Cambridge and marks the beginning of an exciting journey for us. We look forward to playing a leading role in developing the city’s cultural landscape.

“With our expert team and great board we have the skills in place to now build upon the existing legacy of the Corn Exchange, Folk Festival and the city events programme.”
