Specialist LED supplier Intelligent LED Solutions (ILS) have announced the release of the Petunia Development Kit, a starter kit that will enable engineers to develop powerful new LED lighting systems for plant growth. A key feature of this package is the use of high power LEDs to generate three specific colours to produce the perfect spectrums for plant production.
"We are seeing a clear trend in the use of LED lighting for assisting plant growth," said Adrian Amor, Director at ILS. "LEDs offer better efficiency, more control and often a more compact design; and with recent development in the areas of wavelength and power, we are now seeing plant growth lighting as an important market sector."
Central to the development kit is a PCB with 12 LED’s: 6 Warm White 150°, 5 Hyper RED 80° and 1 Deep Blue 80°. Additional components include a specially developed lens, a power supply, a heat sink and a fixing kit. The Petunia LED light sources are built on aluminium substrates for optimal thermal management. With a low thermal resistance of 7K/W the Petunia runs cool and offers a highly efficient product.
